Made in UK Day

The 9th of March 2021 was Made in UK Day.  You may ask why that date?  Well, Kate Hills on the 9th of March 2011 wrote her first blog championing British Manufacturing - Make it British was born.

Kate had worked for many years in retail as a buyer and had seen a lot of the big companies move their manufacturing from the UK to overseas.  She is passionate about UK manufacturing and wants to see it thrive.

The aim of Made in UK Day is to highlight British brands and manufacturing and to help people realise the difference they can make.  If everyone living in the UK bought just one item made in the UK worth £20 it would be worth £1.3bn to our economy!

I also started Roslyn Whiting Leathercraft in 2011 (my business birthday isn’t until December).  One of my values has always been to buy products as local as possible.  It took me time to find the tanneries and companies but, I have found some great ones.

I may be a small business but I want to support as many other UK businesses as I can.  The quality of products and materials made here in the UK is very high which is important when I’m making luxurious leathergoods for you to use every day.

Some of the things I do to support other British Business:

 ·      Buy direct from British tanneries

·       Buy my buckles and fittings from one of the last foundries in Britain

·      Use a small British letter pressing business for my branded stationery

·       My branded boxes are made in Scotland

·       All my branded stationery, boxes and tissue paper and made from British paper

·       I share and tag the British companies I use on my social media posts.

I am going to do a series of blogs sharing the British tanneries and companies I use.  My aim is to share the provenance of my products and, you’ll get to know the other UK business you’re supporting when you buy from Roslyn Whiting Leathercraft.
